Help Daneen Fight Cancer!

This year, hundreds of thousands of people will hear the words "You have cancer", and there's a good chance that some of them will be people we know and love. We have all been touched by cancer in some way ... and we all have the power to make a difference. That's why I have chosen to fight back by participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.

I want to invite you to join me in the fight against cancer by making a donation in support of my efforts. Click here to make an online contribution. Every amount, no matter how small, makes a difference and provides hope.

If you enjoy getting Spoiled Pretty every day, here's a way to return the favor and show me some love - while supporting a very worthy cause. Right now, I'm the #3 fundraiser...help make me #1!

And if you're in or near Philadelphia, you can also sign up to join my team and learn more about Relay and how it's changing lives.

Relay For Life brings more than 3.5 million people from across the country together each year to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Award Winning FOTD

Last night, I attended the PRSA/Philadelphia Pepperpot Awards - a celebration of outstanding performance in public relations by practitioners in agencies, industry, government, and non-profit organizations. The American Cancer Society’s Marketing Department (of which I am a member) was nominated for our efforts to pass Clean Indoor Air (smoke-free) legislation in Pennsylvania.

The Pepperpot Award has grown into one of the most coveted awards in the field of public relations, so I pulled out the big guns and went all out with my makeup. It’s a good thing I did, because my team ended up winning first place in the Public Affairs category! Yay us!

And the icing on the cake? Charm City Cakes, the bakery featured in the Food Network series, Ace of Cakes, created a magnificent confection that looked just like an actual pepperpot!

Here are the products I used to create my award-winning look:

Total Beauty - Total Cure Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

Every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. This staggering statistic resonated deeply with the members of the Total Beauty blog community, many of whom have been personally touched by the disease. So in the spirit of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Total Beauty blog community is hosting a month-long initiative that integrates breast cancer awareness, fundraising to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Fund (BCRF) and beauty giveaways to engage women in the quest for the cure.

Total Beauty - Total Cure is dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of prevention and early detection, and arming women with the knowledge they need to take control of their health, bringing us one step closer to a world without breast cancer.

Breast cancer information, screening guidelines, other resources will be integrated throughout the campaign. And each participating blogger has pledged to raise funds for BCRF.

As the campaign chair, you know I had to throw a giveaway or two - or 43! - into the mix. So participating blogs will engage readers through daily giveaways (valued at more than $250!) that require entrants to answer breast cancer trivia, making the contests both educational and fun. Giveaway sponsors include Anastasia Beverly Hills, Benefit, Bourjois, Cargo, Clarisonic, Freeze 24-7, Goody, Jaqua, Jurlique, L'Oreal Paris, NARS, Peter Thomas Roth, Stila and Three Custom Color.

Today, The Beauty Bunny is giving away a CHI Flat Iron, T3 Featherweight Hair Dryer, Moroccanoil Treatment, and CHI Silk Infusion. This contest, sponsored by beautychoice.com is valued at $285! Who says charity can’t be a little self-indulgent?

Giveaways will also be hosted on Total Beauty - Total Cure pages on Facebook and MySpace; throughout the month of October, all visitors who become a "friend/fan" of the pages will be entered in drawings to win a bounty of beauty products from Napoleon Perdis and Tarte.

For more information about Total Beauty - Total Cure, click here. If you are interested in making a monetary contribution, we ask that you visit www.bcrf.org

Everyday Can Be Sun Day With Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula SPF 15 Body Lotion

You all know that by night (and weekend), I am a beauty blogger extraordinaire. But did you know that, by day, I work for the American Cancer Society? Well, since May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, allow me to drop some knowledge on you.

There are more than 1 million skin cancers diagnosed each year in the United States. That’s more than cancers of the prostate, breast, lung, colon, uterus, ovaries and pancreas combined! Warmer weather is finally here and many activities move outside, so be sun smart and to follow some easy tips to reduce your risk of skin cancer.

* Limit Direct Sun Exposure during Midday (10 am and 4pm)
* Cover Up* Wear a Hat
* Wear Sunglasses That Block UV Rays
* Avoid Tanning Beds and Sunlamps
* Use a Sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or Higher

My new favorite sun protection product comes courtesy of Palmer’s. Their Cocoa Butter Formula SPF 15 Body Lotion really makes skin care easy to integrate sun care into my beauty routine.

The formula is enriched with cocoa butter and Vitamin E, which helps promote elasticity and suppleness while soothing chapped, parched skin. And with SPF 15, it’s a great everyday way to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Plus, when you smooth it on, it has this delectable chocolate fragrance – which somehow morphs into a fresh, powdery scent once it sinks in. How does Palmer’s do it? I dunno.

Try this lotion for yourself and see if it works its magic on you. At $6.65 for an 8.5 oz. bottle, you have no excuse.
